Tomorrow morning i will try wired on the hour and see what happens. Its been happening for at least a few weeks since i started figuring out it was a scheduled occurence. I moved some stuff around and connected the router directly to the modem, now it doesnt require unplugging to fix, but i get these hourly outages that always start at 5 am, and tend to stop around 12-1, no heater is running today. It would completely go out, and would hardly work after a reboot. This new one i got a few months ago had as bad if not worse, and unpredicatable outages. Thankfully, the third-party website lists both download and upload speeds, showing that Comcasts 25Mbps download plan comes with 3Mbps uploads the 100Mbps and 200Mbps. Was pretty predicatable when it would go out. I suggest doing tests when you and your neighbors aren't on video calls. Sometimes it would be fixed if i unplugged it, sometimes it would be out for a week. Here’s the tell-tale sign: If your internet speed is slower without a VPN active, your ISP is most likely throttling you. ![]() Too much data at once caused my old router to overload and crash. Ive had problems with outages for at least a year now. There are no electronics around the router and modem other than those two themselves for a good 10 feet or so. I wil be able to try fixes tomorrow, though ive already extensively tried different things to fix it on my end. Something causing a massive amount of electrical noise (either through consumption or leakage) could degrade your local network. Is there anything, however implausibly related to the problem in the house or adjacent neighbors that is timed to begin at 5 am and shut off at noon? That time range suspiciously sounds like a heater if you're in the colder climates. Check that the cable is at least Cat5E, Cat 6, or fiber. Reboot the modem and isolate it at least 3 feet from other electronics to eliminate electrical / wifi noise. If the problem exists on both points, then the modem or line is at issue. Is it at least Cat5E or Cat 6? Try changing jacks. If Wifi works better than wired, then your patch cable may be damaged or insufficient. Any other channel gets crosstalk from the other channels and the modem has to work harder to filter it out. Wifi: Try using a WIFI app to see where your modem stands against other signals, it should be in the least noisiest crowded channel 1,6,11 range (10 weak signals, 1 strong signal on channel 1 is probably a better choice than 5 strong signals on channel 6), or even better 5ghz range. ![]()
